A Long-Standing Working Relationship
It's been a while since my last post, but I wanted to write about a project I recently completed for a client I've known for years. I redesigned the website for Hey Jude Hair Salon, a local hair salon based here in Scarborough, North Yorkshire.
I've known Jude, the owner of Hey Jude Hair Salon, for a number of years. I first built her website back in 2019, so when she came back to me wanting a full redesign it felt like a natural next step. Jude had recently redecorated the salon interior and wanted a website that matched the new look and feel. Something modern, polished, and the best in Scarborough.
I was happy to take it on. Not only could I clean up the original build, but it gave me a great opportunity to work with some of the latest frontend tooling I use day to day in my professional career.
The Goal: Best in Class
Jude's clients are primarily women from Scarborough and the surrounding areas including Whitby, Filey, Bridlington and York, coming to her for hair extensions and colour. More recently Jude has also expanded into hair enhancers and hair toppers, catering for clients who are experiencing hair loss or looking to add volume to thinning hair. It was important that the website spoke to all of these clients and felt welcoming, trustworthy and premium from the moment they landed on it.
Jude wanted a website that stood out as the best in Scarborough and I took that seriously. From the start, the design direction was all about prestige and luxury. I drew inspiration from brands like Tiffany & Co., whose websites carry a refined, high-end feel without being cold or uninviting. I wanted to bring that same sense of quality to a warm, welcoming local salon.

Tech Stack
As a frontend developer I'm very comfortable working with modern Vue-based frameworks and this project was a great chance to put that to good use. For this build I went with:
- Nuxt 4 for a fast, well-structured architecture with great performance out of the box
- Vue 3 making full use of the Composition API and modern Vue patterns
- Tailwind CSS for utility-first styling that keeps things clean and consistent
- Oku Motion for smooth animations and page transitions that give the site a premium feel
- Vitest and Playwright to keep everything reliable and well tested
Nuxt 4 and Tailwind together gave me a solid foundation to build something performant and easy to maintain going forward.
Design
Getting the design right was just as important as the technical side. Tiffany & Co. gave me the overall feel I was going for, but the details needed to work specifically for Jude's salon. I went with premium, polished fonts that feel clean and refined, and chose beige tones for the colour palette. The beige worked on two levels — it complemented the new interior and exterior of the salon itself, while also sitting naturally alongside that Tiffany & Co. inspired premium aesthetic. The goal was for someone to land on the site and immediately get a sense of the quality they could expect walking through the door.
The animations powered by Oku Motion add a nice layer of polish, with smooth page transitions that feel intentional rather than showy.

The Outcome
The project took a few weeks to complete and Jude was really pleased with how it turned out. Since going live, the site has already grown. We've added a new Hair Enhancers page to let Jude's clients know about her range of hair enhancers and toppers, which is a new service she's recently started offering.
It's been great to see it evolve so quickly after launch and there's plenty more in the pipeline.
"Thank you very much Ben for creating me a fantastic website. You've made the website and branding of the salon feel professional and premium. Since the launch of the website, I've had a lot more new customers that have come through the website and they refer to finding me through the website."
— Jude, Owner of Hey Jude Hair Salon
What's Next
I have a few more exciting projects lined up with Jude. One I'm really looking forward to is building an iOS booking app that will let Jude manage client appointments and send them reminders ahead of their bookings. It's something that will make a real difference to how she runs the business day to day and I can't wait to get started.
If you're a local business in Scarborough or North Yorkshire and you're looking for a modern, professional website, or you have a cool idea about an app you'd like me to build, feel free to get in touch. I'd love to hear about your project.
